Rocking Chair- Part 14

And here I am starting to shape the funny looking outer part of the front leg joint. As you see I am using that traditional precision cabinetmaker's tool - the angle grinder. To be truthful, it is surprisingly delicate if one is careful although it is important not to catch the edge of the rotating disk on something unintentionally, it leave nasty gouges and there may not be enough meat in the afflicted part to smooth them away - so far I have been lucky!

However, there are some parts that the angle grinder won't reach and this is one of them. I am using an old in-cannel gouge here with just the right radius to make a nicely shaped curve from the seat onto the leg.

Here is the result of that shaping, the front leg now merges gracefully with the seat. There still remains a deal of refinement to do and also the seat itself to shape on the arrises but the curvy nature of the chair is beginning to reveal itself.

I have been surprised by just how sensitive one's eye is to very small deviations from a smooth curve. Any little humps or bumps stick out like a sore thumb even when they are just perceptible to brushing one's fingers over the offending bit. I think this will be even more so when finish is applied so it will be important to deal with the smoothing properly before that stage!

Here are the legs in before and after states
